Close Friend Shares Untold Stories of William and Kate’s Early Romance

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s relationship has long captivated the public, particularly when it began at St Andrews University. While many believe their romance blossomed after Kate participated in a charity fashion show, a close friend of the couple, Laura Warshauer, reveals their connection started earlier.

Laura, who relocated from New Jersey to St Andrews in 2001, had a front-row view of their developing bond. She recalls their chemistry being apparent right from the start. One standout moment occurred at a charity event with a Harry Potter theme, where guests bid on dates. William placed a £200 bid for a date with Kate, and although she remained composed, it was clear to Laura that they had an immediate connection.

In another instance, William found himself in an uncomfortable conversation with a girl, and Kate, noticing his discomfort, intervened. She walked over, placed her arms around him, and gently helped him escape the situation, allowing William to politely tell the girl, “I’m sorry, I have a girlfriend.” William’s silent “Thank you” to Kate became a cherished memory for Laura.

Their bond grew through shared experiences, like William helping Laura with her luggage, teaching Kate to play guitar, and enjoying simple moments together—whether it was takeaway food or road trips.

In their 2010 engagement interview, both reflected on those early days, with Kate admitting she was shy and blushed when they first met, a sign of the sincere affection that would continue to grow between them.
