Syria’s New Government to Include All Sectors: Foreign Minister

RIYADH:
Syria’s Foreign Minister, Asaad Hassan Al-Shibani, recently told Saudi officials that the new government in Damascus aims to be inclusive, involving all segments of Syrian society, following the ousting of Bashar Al-Assad last month.

This trip marked the first international visit by a member of Syria’s newly established administration, as both regional and global powers watch closely to determine whether the new government will adopt strict Islamic rule or embrace a more inclusive approach.

Al-Shibani, accompanied by Syria’s Defense Minister, met with Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman in Riyadh on Thursday.

During the visit, Al-Shibani shared Syria’s vision for a new government based on partnership and efficiency, which would represent all Syrian groups. He also outlined plans for an economic development strategy aimed at attracting investment, building strategic partnerships, and improving living and service conditions across Syria.

Since the overthrow of Assad on December 8, rebel forces, primarily led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), have worked to reassure both Arab nations and the international community that they intend to govern in the interest of all Syrians and avoid exporting revolution.
