Deion Sanders pushes Jets to hire Louis Riddick as GM following interview

Deion Sanders, head coach at the University of Colorado, has strongly urged the New York Jets to make the most of a valuable opportunity after they interviewed ESPN analyst Louis Riddick for their vacant general manager role.

In a post on Thursday, Sanders expressed his full support for Riddick, stating, “Jets, please don’t mess this up, and I hope this was a genuine interview and not the usual routine. This man deserves a REAL CHANCE! He embodies knowledge and class!” Sanders’ comments highlight Riddick’s qualifications and his potential to succeed in the position.

Riddick, 55, has a vast background in the NFL. He played for six seasons before moving into management. Riddick served as the Philadelphia Eagles’ director of pro personnel from 2010 to 2013 and previously worked as a pro scout with Washington. He later became the team’s director of pro personnel. Afterward, Riddick transitioned to ESPN, where he became one of the network’s leading NFL analysts.

Sanders and Riddick were teammates on the Atlanta Falcons during the early 1990s. In his tweet, Sanders seemed to allude to “The Rooney Rule,” which mandates that NFL teams interview at least one minority candidate for vacant positions. This rule has faced criticism for being used without genuine intent to hire the candidate.

The Jets are currently searching for both a new general manager and head coach after firing Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas during the season. Riddick is one of several individuals being considered, along with head coach candidates such as Ron Rivera, as well as other GM prospects like Thomas Dimitroff, Jon Robinson, and Jim Nagy.
