Gaza’s Population Drops by 6% Amid Ongoing Israeli Conflict

Gaza’s population has decreased by 6% due to the ongoing conflict with Israel, according to official data released on Tuesday. The population of Gaza now stands at 2.1 million, down from 2.26 million in 2023. Ola Awad, the head of the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), reported that over 45,500 people have died as a result of Israeli attacks, and approximately 100,000 have fled the area since the escalation began on October 7, 2023.

The victims include 17,581 children and 12,048 women, with nearly 107,000 people injured and around 11,000 missing. The total Palestinian population is estimated at around 15 million, including those in Gaza, the West Bank, Israel, and the diaspora.

The Israeli military’s operations in Gaza have continued despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire. In November 2023, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
