Iain Armitage, the young actor known for his role in Young Sheldon, recently reunited with his first on-screen mother, Shailene Woodley, at her Broadway debut. Armitage shared his experience on Instagram on December 30th, reflecting on their time working together on Big Little Lies.
He posted a carousel of photos, expressing his admiration for Woodley’s performance in Cult of Love, a play being staged at Second Stage Theater in New York City. “Last night, I got to see my first fake mama, @shailenewoodley, in a play on Broadway! She’s in Cult of Love,” he wrote, recalling his early days in acting. Armitage shared that when he was seven and cast in Big Little Lies, he had a FaceTime call with Woodley before filming started. He asked her about what to expect, and she reassured him that it would be “fun, like playing.” Armitage fondly recalled her words, noting that she was right.
The 15-year-old actor expressed his thrill at seeing Woodley perform on stage, stating how happy it made him. He ended his post with a heartfelt message, saying, “I hope Shailene keeps coming back to theatre because it makes me so happy to see her up there, and I hope she knows how proud I am to be her fake son!”
Woodley shared Armitage’s post on her own Instagram story, writing, “My Ziggy came to the show last night. Made my heart so happy,” and later added, “He’s grown into such an extraordinary young man. Can’t believe how much time has gone since we did Big Little Lies.”
The two actors, who portrayed mother and son on the hit HBO series, may reunite for another season. Nicole Kidman hinted at a possible third installment of Big Little Lies in November 2023.
Woodley’s Broadway play, Cult of Love, which started on November 20, 2024, runs through February 2, 2024. The production also features Barbie Ferreira, Christopher Lowell, Molly Bernard, Rebecca Henderson, and Christopher Sears.
