A Frontier Constabulary (FC) soldier was martyred, and 11 others were injured when Afghan forces launched unprovoked fire on multiple Pakistani border posts in the Upper Kurram district on Saturday morning. The attack, which involved both light and heavy weaponry, targeted posts in Ghozgarhi, Matha Sangar, Kot Ragha, and Tari Mengal. In response, Pakistani security forces retaliated, inflicting significant losses on the Afghan side, with reports confirming the deaths of seven to eight Afghan personnel.
In addition, militants attempted to infiltrate Pakistani territory late on Friday night using Afghan Taliban-controlled posts, but the attempt was thwarted. Following the failed infiltration, both Afghan forces and militants jointly opened fire on Pakistani posts on Saturday morning, resulting in the deaths of over 15 militants and several injuries. Afghan forces abandoned their posts after the attack.
The incident comes amid ongoing concerns over the use of Afghan soil by militants for cross-border terrorism, particularly by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Despite Pakistanβs repeated calls for action, the Afghan Taliban has continued to support the militants. The attack follows recent Pakistani airstrikes on TTP camps in Afghanistan’s Paktika province, which resulted in several militants being killed or wounded. Afghan authorities had warned of retaliation following the airstrikes, which targeted militant hideouts along the border.
