Security forces eliminated 27 terrorists in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Balochistan’s Kacchi district, as reported by the military’s media wing on Monday.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) revealed that the IBO took place on Sunday, based on intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the area. The forces “stealthily surrounded and effectively engaged the terrorists’ location,” leading to an intense exchange of fire during which 27 terrorists were killed.
The operation also resulted in the destruction of several terrorist hideouts, including caches of arms, ammunition, and explosives. According to the ISPR, the slain terrorists were involved in multiple attacks against security forces and civilians, making them highly wanted by law enforcement.
“Pakistan’s security forces, in line with the nation, remain committed to preventing any attempts to destabilize Balochistan and hinder its progress,” the ISPR statement concluded.
This operation took place just two days after several incidents in Balochistan, including a blast in Chaman, an attack on a Levies post in Mastung, and a bomb attempt targeting an assistant commissioner in Khuzdar. In the Chaman incident, an improvised explosive device (IED) placed on a motorcycle exploded near a passing Frontier Corps truck, injuring four civilians but not damaging the truck.
Pakistan, particularly Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has faced a rise in terrorism-related incidents in 2024, making it the deadliest year for both military and civilian security forces in a decade. A total of 685 security personnel lost their lives in 444 terror attacks, while civilian casualties reached 1,612, marking a significant increase in fatalities compared to previous years.
The Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) has been identified as a major perpetrator of terrorist attacks, with their actions causing 225 fatalities, according to the Pakistan Security Report 2024 from the Pak Institute for Peace Studies.
