17th Anniversary of Benazir Bhutto’s Death Commemorated Today

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is observing the 17th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto with nationwide tributes, centered around a central event at her family’s resting place in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, Larkana, Sindh. Key leaders, including PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and former President Asif Ali Zardari, are expected to address the gathering. Also in attendance are Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari, the youngest daughter of Benazir and the current First Lady of Pakistan, and other family members.

A large stage adorned with PPP flags and Benazir’s portraits has been set up, with poets honoring her memory. Tight security measures have been implemented, including over 8,500 officers ensuring safety for the event.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid tribute to Benazir Bhutto, calling her a “champion of democracy” and highlighting her role in the creation of the Charter of Democracy. He praised her family’s ongoing political influence, especially Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.

Benazir Bhutto, born on June 21, 1953, made history as the first woman to serve as Pakistan’s Prime Minister. She was known for advocating democracy, women’s rights, and economic reforms. Tragically assassinated in 2007, her legacy remains a powerful symbol of hope and resilience in Pakistan.
