17 Killed in Indonesia Landslide

JAKARTA:
A landslide caused by heavy rainfall in Central Java, Indonesia, has resulted in at least 17 fatalities, with nine people still missing, disaster officials reported on Tuesday.

The landslide occurred on Monday in a mountainous region near Pekalongan city, triggered by intense rainfall. It led to the collapse of a bridge and buried several houses and vehicles under thick mud.

Abdul Muhari, spokesperson for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), confirmed that a joint rescue team had recovered another victim, bringing the death toll to 17. The number of missing individuals has now risen to nine.
